Volunteers Enhance WCHF Stories

The Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame website is an archive of the stories that have shaped Wisconsin conservation history. Our website is well-visited, with people of all ages from around the world seeking information about the Inductees. We are always looking to expand our resource collection to help website visitors even better understand the makings of a conservation hero.

We can enhance the stories we tell about our Inductees with the help of family members and colleagues of our Inductees. When added to our existing resource library, old family photos of an Inductee in their element or a letter they wrote to a colleague help paint a picture of what inspired conservation action and leadership. Nomination Process – July is Board of Governor Review

In June, the nomination applications received in 2022 went through Technical Review. Once the review was complete, nominators were notified of their application status. The nomination applications that passed Technical Review were then sent to the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame Board of Governors.

The Governors are an independent body, meaning they do not serve the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame in any other capacity that could influence their decision making. The Governors are highly knowledgeable in Wisconsin conservation history and bring a wealth of experience to their positions. The Governors are chosen based on their passion for and experience, background, and understanding of Wisconsin’s Conservation movement. Governors serve overlapping three-year terms and may be reappointed.

WCHF Voting Member Organization Spotlight – Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW)

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) offers hands-on, outdoor workshops held in a safe, supportive atmosphere with patient, enthusiastic instructors. No experience or special equipment is necessary. BOW is for adult women of all ages and fitness levels.

The program began in 1991, offered through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. This successful program, founded by Christine Thomas (WCHF Inductee), has become popular in more than 40 states and several Canadian provinces.

The Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame is guided by a seven-member volunteer board of directors. This month we introduce board member, Tom Hauge.

Tom shares, “During both my academic training and professional career, my awareness of key moments in our shared history that saved, protected or conserved Wisconsin’s natural resources grew. These achievements did not just happen by accident.
