Welcome to new WCHF Governor Jane Severt. Jane will replace outgoing Governor Alan Haney. We are thankful for Alan’s 9 years of service on the Board of Governors.
Jane Severt retired from her position as Executive Director of Wisconsin County Forests Association in October of 2019, a position she filled for 12 years. Prior to that role Jane worked as a county forester in Ashland County, County Forest Administrator in Ashland County and County Forest Administrator in Lincoln County. Her first full-time position in forestry was as Wisconsin Forest Inventory Supervisor with Lumberjack RC&D Council. Jane is a member of Society of American Foresters, Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association and a number of conservation organizations. She currently serves on UWSP’s Forestry Faculty Advisory Committee and Board of Directors for Forest History Association of Wisconsin.
Alan Haney is Emeritus Professor of Forestry in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He came to Stevens Point in 1988 as dean of the College of Natural Resources, a position he held for ten years. He returned to full-time teaching and research in 1998, then retired in 2007. He now devotes his energy to writing, consulting, forest management, and occasional lectures. His areas of expertise include ecosystem restoration, adaptive management, savanna restoration, land conservation, and forest community responses to disturbance. His published work includes twelve books, and over four dozen technical papers. Alan has been a board member or science advisor for ten conservation and environmental organizations in Wisconsin, including the conservation Hall of Fame, Sand County Foundation and the Ice Age Trail Alliance. He was honored in 1997 by the School of Natural Resources, UW-Madison, with the Wisconsin Idea Award, and in 2000 by the Society for Conservation Biology with the White Lady-slipper Award for his contributions to conservation of biological diversity.
