Natural Resources Foundation has new Executive Director

WCHF Board member Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin (NRF) will be holding their 2019 Open House on November 7, 2019 to celebrate their new office space and welcome their new Executive Director, David Clutter! David will be the NRF’s representative to the WCHF Board of Directors.

Plan to stop by their new office on Paterson Street in Madison for light refreshments, good company and an opportunity to meet Foundation members and partners in conservation.

Please RSVP by October 29 if you plan to attend.

Today, September 9th would have been Lorrie Otto’s 100th birthday. Lorrie Otto — Queen of the Prairie. Lorrie Otto — the inspiration for Wild Ones — was a 1999 inductee into the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame. Consider making a donation in her memory to the Hall of Fame Today!

LORRIE’S STORY

Lorraine “Lorrie” Stoeber was born in 1919 near Madison, Wisconsin. She lived on a farm where she learned to love the soil and the biodiversity of the landscape. As a young woman who was tall and smart, she got involved in many things from modeling evening gowns for wholesale houses to preparing to be a pilot in the World War II Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) program.

The Wisconsin Pollinator Protection Fund

Anonymous members of WCHF voting member organization Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin recently donated $500,000 to establish the Wisconsin Pollinator Protection Fund which will support native pollinator conservation across the State. This donation requires a matching donation to establish a permanent endowment fund for Wisconsin pollinator conservation.

Goals of the program include:

capacity building for Wisconsin polliantor conservation
habitat creation and enhancement
research and monitoring
education and outreach

On August 22, 2019, I received this note from WCHF friend Richard Hemp and thought I’d share:

“I was in the San Francisco ferry terminal last week and saw these books on John Muir prominently displayed. Perhaps you may have seen some or all these publications. His ongoing outreach continues to be amazing. So great for WCHF visibility.”

WCHF Enrolled in Thrivent Choice Program

We received word this past week that the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame Foundation Inc is now enrolled in Thrivent Choice^® and will be listed in the Thrivent Choice online catalog.

Thrivent Choice is a member-advised program that allows eligible members to recommend where Thrivent distributes part of its charitable outreach funds each year. When eligible Thrivent members direct Choice Dollars^® to WCHF in a particular month, Thrivent reviews the recommendation and makes an electronic deposit in our bank account by the 10^th of the following month. Those funds may be used to carry out the WCHF mission.
