WCHF Welcomes New President

Meet Patty Dreier

WCHF has a new President. Her name is Patty Dreier and she comes to us courtesy of the Ice Age Trail Alliance. Patty has dedicated her life to helping people become better stewards of our planet, so the role of leading the WCHF organization in honoring Wisconsin’s conservation heroes should come naturally to her. In fact, she was the person who delivered the speech when John Muir was inducted into the WCHF in 1985. (She was a UW-Stevens Point graduate student at the time.)

Patty has a BS in Biology with emphasis on Botany (1982) and a MS in Natural Resources with emphasis on Environmental Education (1988). As a grant writer, she has been successful in securing over $200 million in grant …

WCHF receives First Thrivent Choice Program Donation

WCHF receives First Thrivent Choice Program Donation

Reference my earlier post WCHF enrolled in Thrivent Choice Program. We recently received our first donation through the Thrivent Choice Program!

Jerry Knuth, WCHF Secretary, wrote:

“Following up on your recent announcement about WCHF now being eligible for Thrivent Choice Dollars, I gave the folks at Thrivent a call to make sure the Hall of Fame is now listed.  It is, so I have directed Choice Dollars to be wired to the WCHF Bank Account. I’m told that the wire transfer should go out at the end of next week and will show up on the next Bank Statement. It’s a start toward our 100th WCHF Inductee Fundraiser.

Your announcement, Donna, was a good explanation. If eligible Thrivent Customers are interested in directing Choice …

Sigurd Olson “Wild Prophet”

Sigurd Olson “Wild Prophet”

A friend of WCHF recently sent a newspaper article from the Minnesota’s Star Tribune about Wisconsin son Sigurd Olson who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987. It begins: “Famed author and wilderness advocate Sigurd Olson put a fresh sheet of paper into his typewriter at his home in Ely, Minn., and tapped out a thought.

Written in three lines, centered, like a poem, were these words:

A New Adventure is coming up
And I’m sure it will be
A good one.”

The next day these words were found by one of his sons, after Sigurd had passed away while on an adventure with his snowshoes. What a fitting memorial for such a literary laureate to wilderness lovers.
